Instrument Panel

The instrument panel is made from Basswood as per specification but as this tends to twist, it has been made from 3 layers, the middle one at right angles to the outer ones.

The cut outs are necessary for the guns.  This also means that some of the instruments would be too far away from the pilots if directly panel mounted.  Therefore it is necessary to build wooden packings as shown for the Air Speed Indicator and the Altimeter.  The watch was too valuable to leave and slotted in and out of a little metal holder.  The compass was surface mounted and stood forward as shown below.  The magneto switches came directly from the building trade at the time!

Missing basic instruments at this stage are: tachometer, air pressure  gauge and pressure relief valve.
